Doyle Drive is too vital to play games with seismic work

DOYLE DRIVE needs to be rebuilt and made seismically safe. That is the one thing upon which officials and transit experts in Marin, San Francisco and the Bay Area agree. After that things get a little murky.

The $1.1 billion question is how to make that a reality. Soon. The 1.5-mile-long southern approach to the Golden Gate Bridge is a disaster waiting to happen. Caltrans rates its structural health a 2 on a scale of 1 to 100. That is not acceptable.
