IMAGINE WHAT might happen in a quiet, residential Oakland neighborhood if one day a factory was dropped into it. Wouldn't we expect the residents to protest the introduction of activity they felt didn't fit in with their community? Probably, and they'd be right to do so.

SAN JOSE, CA (KGO) -- The FBI suspects an eco-terrorism group called Earth Liberation Front set fires at several vacant mansions under construction near Seattle on Monday. They're apparent protests against the builder's claim that these are earth friendly homes. Extreme measures? Yes, but these fires do raise questions about just how construction projects are classified as green.

Migden pushes housing bills

A new bill designed to help maintain rent-controlled housing in California has been introduced by state Senator Carole Migden (D-San Francisco).

Senate Bill 1299, introduced February 20, would allow local governments to require property owners who demolish rent-controlled units to replace them with units with the same price controls.
